Course Overview

The subject consists of 11 units, providing learners with the vocabulary, structure and skills to write different types of correspondence such as letters of inquiry, quotes, orders, appointments, thank-you letters, letters of recommendation, memos, notes, complaints, reports and the complete application package in English.

Course Assessment

Assessment 1 (10%) - Mini-test (Email/letter writing)

Assessment 2 (20%) - Attendance, classroom activities and/or e-learning, & mini-test

- Attendance (2 pts.): 1 absence: - 0.7 pt. (with apology/ coming late/ leaving early: - 0.4 pt.); 2 absences: - 1.4 pts.; 3 absences: - 2 pts; 4 or more absences: ineligible for the final exam

- Classroom activities and/or e-learning (3 pts.)

- Mini-test (5 pts.) (Email/letter/report writing)

Assessment 3 (Mid-term test - 20%) - Mini-test

Part 1: Target Language (3 pts): 10 items (True/False, Gap-filling, Matching, Sentence building)

Part 2: (7 pts) 1 email/letter to write

Assessment 4 (Final exam - 50%) - Mini-test

Part 1: Target Language (2 pts): 10 items (True/False, Gap-filling, Matching)

Part 2: (8 pts) 2 email/letter/report to write


Eligibility for the final exam

Students are required (1) to attend at least 80% of the classes, (2) to get access to the course e-learning system and complete at least 6 E-learning quizzes/ assignments, the average score of which must be 5 or above up to Week 13 of the course, (3) to actively participate in class activities and discussions, (4) to read the assigned materials before every class meeting, and (5) to complete all assignments on time.

Failure to comply with the requirements will mean ineligibility to sit for the final examination.
