This module introduces students to the theoretical and methodological approaches through which sociologists analyze major historical changes that have deeply shaped the modern world. From it's beginning, sociology has engaged in comparative and historical analysis, innovatively using historical sources to address big questions like the origins of capitalism and revolution, industrialisation, colonialism, development, technological change, proletarianisation and neoliberalism. In recent decades, comparative historical sociology has emerged as an influential field in the social sciences.
